Following the reveal of the 2016 Jaguar XE, our spy photographers managed to capture the next-generation Jaguar XF
sedan testing in hot-weather conditions in southern Europe. This next Jaguar XF will in all likelihood continue on with familiar styling, despite growing in size to distinguish itself more from the entry-level XE
The prototype Jaguar XF seen here is fully disguised in camouflage, but Jaguar’s oval-shaped grille, LED lighting, sloping rear glass, and curved rear trunklid look to carry over from the first generation XF. One noticeable change is the location of the Jaguar XF’s dual exhaust ports, which are now positioned closer to the center of the car than before.
Jaguar product planners are eager to increase both the XF’s pricing and size, given the new entry-level position held by the smaller Jaguar XE. The new XE is 11.4 inches shorter, 1.1 inches narrower, and 2.9 inches shorter in wheelbase than the current XF. The next Jaguar XF will undoubtedly widen that gap, riding on an elongated version of the aluminum chassis that underpins the smaller XE. Powertrain options will not diverge too far from what we see in the current Jaguar XF
—we expect the sedan to offer a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo, a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6, and the range-topping 5.0-liter supercharged V-8. Diesel-powered engines will be offered only in Europe for the time being. A plug-in hybrid is a distinct possibility down the line.
Other aspects of the upcoming Jaguar XF include all-wheel drive, an updated nine-speed ZF automatic transmission, and a revised InControl infotainment system.
